Concert of 24 March 1953

In February 1948, Furtwängler premiered his 2nd Symphony (programme available here).

The composer performed it many times, notably with his Berliner orchestra during a major tour in January 1953, but also with local orchestras in Hamburg (Philharmonic), Winterthur (Municipal orchestra), Munich (Philharmonic), Frankfurt (Radio), Vienna (Philharmonic), Zurich (Tonhalle) and Stuttgart (Radio).

In March 1953, shortly after the Berliner tour, Kassel invited Furtwängler to conduct his Symphony, but with its Opera orchestra. It was Furtwängler's only appearance as conductor of this orchestra.
