Concert of 20 November 1939
A loose leaf is inside the booklet: it states that between Schumann's overture and the premiere of Pfitzner's Little Symphony will be performed the ballad Herr Oluf by the same composer. Quite often included by Furtwängler in the concerts he conducted, it was sung on this occasion by Hans Hotter, who would return after the symphony to sing Dietrich's Tale from Der arme Heinrich. This was the last time that Furtwängler conducted these two vocal works, which he had worked with for many years.
As for the Little Symphony, Furtwängler premiered it but, curiously, did not perform it again, whereas he more frequently performed its smaller companion, the Symphony op. 46.

It is somewhat surprising that Hans Hotter didn't take part more often in concerts conducted by Furtwängler, particularly operas. On stage, he was the Wanderer in a Siegfried in Paris, Don Pizarro in some Fidelio from 1942... and that's it.
